Newfield Lodge

Established Living in Dementia Care

Newfield Lodge benefits from a conversion which provided it with extremely large bedrooms and en-suite facilities. Many bedrooms are large such enough to allow residents to bring their own furniture or items of sentimental value should they desire.

With our creation of the Moorings and it’s additional facilities, we felt there was an opportunity to enhance our care offering by moving into the dementia care sector.

In order to maintain our high standards and offer the very best in quality focussed care to our residents that our reputation would be enhanced by, we felt we needed to carry out thorough research into the area of dementia (including improve our knowledge base and ensuring training for our team and our managers). With that in mind, we have made the following investments and changes to Newfield Lodge to ensure it meets and exceeds the requirements for a quality dementia care home, with a focus on sensory and stimulation.

  • Nick Wood (Company Director) has undertaken a 200hr course which was passed with a distinction. This will enable him to ensure that appropriate practices are followed in delivering quality dementia care.
  • All staff have undertaken recognised training courses, many included the virtual dementia tour and will undertake further training on an ongoing basis in order to meet our resident’s needs.
  • We have a specially created sensory room with specialist dementia wall art, mood lighting and other specialist equipment.
  • Memory stations have been placed around the homes.
  • Significant refurbishment has been made to ensure a warm and welcoming environment whilst considering the specialised needs of dementia residents, such as bathroom adaptations, new flooring, and furnishings, signage and lighting with the dementia resident in mind.
  • Our residents have a dedicated activities area with specialised activities that have proven to be beneficial to people affected by dementia causing illnesses.
  • Memory boxes have been fitted outside of each bedroom utilising acrylic glass for safety reasons. These will be filled with the help of residents, their families and their friends in order to personalise their bedrooms and assist them in recognising their own bedroom.
  • The outdoor garden area whilst secure retains a relaxing ambience for residents and their visitors to enjoy.
  • Suitable locks and alarms have been fitted to ensure the safety of our residents. Keypad locks have also been installed at various strategic locations to enhance safety protocols.
  • Discreet pressure pads have been provided where required to further ensure the safety of our residents.

Newfield Lodge benefits from a previous conversion which provided it with extremely large bedrooms and en-suite facilities. Many bedrooms are large enough (23m2 excluding additional en-suite) to allow residents to bring their own furniture or items of sentimental value should they desire. The whole building has a feeling of spaciousness with wide corridors and light, airy lounge areas.

It’s close proximity to St Annes town centre has historically led to it being very popular with those residents who enjoy assisted walks out for their shopping enjoyment and to simply enjoy the picturesque surrounding area. Given the change in our care provision at Newfield Lodge, we expect to be able to continue such trips out where it is safe and in the interests of the resident to do so.
