Rosewood Lodge

Rosewood Lodge is a traditionally furnished home overlooking the sea and sand dunes in the 19th century Edwardian town of  St Anne’s-on-the-Sea, a traditional seaside resort with floral displays, up-market hotels, a sandy beach, donkeys, a small pier and ice cream stalls.

Since opening in 1987 it has provided high quality care for individuals. With the principle that our residents do not live in our workplace, we work in their home, the ethos ensures person-centred care suited to the needs of each individual, rather than a ‘one-size-fits-all’ approach. We also prefer to treat every resident as we would wish our family member to be treated.

Recently re-designed and refurbished Rosewood Lodge benefits from specialised communal areas, bathing facilities and en-suite bedrooms. The large gardens lend themselves well to many of our activities including summer garden parties; BBQs, (where residents play their part in fundraising for their chosen worthy causes), as well as being a safe open space.

Our activity co-ordinator ensures that meaningful and relevant activity is a daily occurrence and includes activities outside of the home. Relatives and friends are often invited to participate. Rosewood is also famous locally for its elaborate Christmas lights display.

The key to achieving our principles, we ensure our teams value each resident and work with residents’ friends and families to build lasting relationships and ensure they have as much time as they require to meet our resident’s needs. In doing this we are providing compassionate and dignified care for our most vulnerable members of society when they need it most. The strength of this team is its dedication to its residents through clear direction. They work hard to ensure they pay attention to detail when caring for their residents and ensure a personal experience.

Elaine Wright

Dementia research, and the knowledge acquired during three years of undergraduate study has provided me with the skills and motivation to reach my career aspirations as a care home manager. I am committed to the vision that people with dementia should ‘live well’ in care homes, and hope I can increase dementia awareness with life-long learning. I have great self-belief, and I am able to inspire my team so we can work together to provide high quality care.

My caring, and empathetic nature is firmly grounded in my values of integrity, loyalty, and compassion. These values have been the stimulus to my dedication to work in health and social care for over 13 years, especially to care for people with dementia. I was enthused to pursue a Professional Practice Health and Social Care degree as I wanted to have a greater input to improve care quality in care homes. Importantly, an eagerness to enable voice, choice and control to people with dementia as a human right was the focus of my dissertation as I continued with a Batchelor of Arts leadership and management honours degree.

My five year plan as I commenced my degree study was to become a care home manager. I have great faith that my charismatic, and transformational style of leadership can provide high quality person-centred care so that people can ‘live well’ with dementia.

I have recently been accepted at Lancaster University for a PhD in dementia studies so that I can continue my passion for dementia care, and achieve this vision.
